Julie developed them while her son Syver was a toddler. They feature Julie’s original paintings of southwest critters, from Anna’s Hummingbird through to the Zebra-Tailed Lizard.
Priced at $17.95, Desert Dwellers Flash Cards, sold in over 30 retail locations including Barnes & Noble, the Grand Canyon and Big Bend Park in Texas. Julie Rustad uses the flash cards in schools and preschools in Tucson to promote reading.
They earned a Silver Addy Award by the American Advertising Federation of Tucson.
“These flash cards were born out of a love of reading, and that’s why I’m excited to be part of this year’s Tucson Festival of Books. Even though I make my living through computers and new technology, I love for my family to just get back to basics, like reading a good book or making art – something that doesn’t require batteries!” said Julie.
